One of the common themes in many classic Chip ‘N’ Dale shorts centers on the collection of food. These films often depicted the mischievous duo either searching for or protecting a stash of food, whether it be acorns, peanuts, popcorn, apples, or even pancakes. Fittingly, this theme has carried over into how they have been presented at Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival, as seen in the above picture of a topiary Chip discovering a sandwich.
Despite being such iconic characters, the chipmunks surprisingly did not appear in topiary form at Walt Disney World until 2015. In their long overdue Flower and Garden Festival debut as part of the “Goofy About Spring” display, they were shown stealing vegetables from Donald Duck’s garden as the perturbed fowl looked on. This past year, food once again played a role in Chip ‘N’ Dale topiary set-up with the duo invading a picnic within a display saluting the 100th anniversary of the National Parks Service. Given the increase of Food and Wine Festival style booths at Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival in recent years, no doubt there will be an even wider variety of food for the chipmunks to find next year.
