During its annual “Holidays Around the World” celebration, Epcot takes on an even merrier atmosphere, and one of the reasons for this is the amazing seasonal decorations set up throughout the park. While the festive sights of World Showcase are inspired by customs and traditions from all over the world, it’s up to Future World to set the stage for the day of holiday fun to come by utilizing some familiar faces. Santa hat-clad topiaires of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, alongside a topiary Pluto, greet incoming guests as they pass through the park’s main entrance or glide above Future World on the Walt Disney World Monorail.
Over the years, Mickey and Minnie have appeared in no shortage of Christmas cartoons, TV specials, and movies, but it all began with 1931’s “Mickey’s Orphans.” This back and white short will mark its 85th anniversary on December 9th of this year, fittingly the same day Disney Channel will premier Mickey’s newest holiday adventure: “Duck the Halls: A Mickey Mouse Christmas Special,” a half-hour entry in its series of award winning “Mickey Mouse” shorts. After 85 years, Mickey and Minnie continue to play a part in the Christmas traditions of many, both on screen and in the Disney theme park.
